"Cultivators of the earth are the most valuable citizens. They are the most vigorous, the most independent, the most virtuous and they are tied to their country and wedded to its liberty and interests by the most lasting bands."

–Thomas Jefferson, Letter to John Jay (Aug. 23, 1785)

Farm at Home - Purpose:  Why start a Home Garden?

Our bodies are the vessels that carry us through life.  Each of us requires proper nutrition and exercise to allow us the freedom and ability to enjoy our days and to cater to our family and friends.  Feeding ourselves - that is to say, tilling the soil, planting a seed, caring for a plant, harvesting our food, and preparing our plates – is a most wonderful reward in and of itself.

Even more pressing is that learning and actualizing feeding ourselves is one large step towards mitigating many of the health and economic difficulties we face as individuals and as a nation.  Growing food upon the soil we live (or within containers upon our porches and windowsills) reduces our ecological foot print.

Empower yourself and those dearest to you.  Join the hundreds of localvores in the county growing their own produce.
