Assistant Field Manager

Full-time/Seasonal, posted January 2021



Working in close cooperation with the Farm Manager, the Assistant Field Manager will assist in all areas of field production and help to ensure the farm is operating efficiently. Responsibilities include participation and leadership in all aspects of vegetable, herb, and flower production on 3-8 acres: seeding; greenhouse management; cultivation and field prep; transplanting; weed and pest management; harvesting, washing, and marketing crops; and record keeping. The Assistant Field Manager will help develop farm plans and schedules and will oversee Field Crew members and volunteers on special projects and ongoing farming tasks. The right candidate will be self-motivated, possess a good work ethic and have excellent communication skills.



  • Participate in and be accountable for growing high quality organic produce
  • Make recommendations for improving vegetable production practices
  • Stay informed of crop production schedules and participate in farm record-keeping
  • Ensure field crew members and volunteers are trained and motivated to accomplish scheduled work
  • Work alongside field crew and oversee field activities to achieve efficient and successful crop production
  • Assist with pest and disease scouting; implement IPM tactics
  • Regularly work with drip and overhead irrigation systems
  • Report to Farm Manager on daily/weekly progress of production activities



  • 2-4 years of experience in organic vegetable production
  • At least one season working in a supervisory role
  • Demonstrated flexibility to work with shifting timelines and schedules
  • Ability work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
  • Comfortable working outside in all weather conditions
  • Strong commitment to organic and sustainable farming practices
  • Ability to lead interns and seasonal staff in all vegetable production activities
  • Comfortably able to lift 50lbs
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Ability to safely operate tractors and other farm equipment preferred, but not required
  • Experience with record keeping for organic certification preferred, but not required


Schedule & Compensation

The Assistant Field Manager is expected to work 40 to 48 hours a week in all weather conditions. Some weekend work is required. We offer an hourly compensation of $18-24, DOE. This position is scheduled to run mid-March through early December, with potential for converting to a full-time position at the end of the season. Housing is not provided.
