Farm Stand Attendant : Recreation Attendant
Hilltop Hanover Farm & Environmental Center is hiring a part-time Farm Stand Attendant. We are seeking candidates who can work directly with the Farm Stand Manager to ensure that our patrons have the best possible experience.
Who We Are
Hilltop Hanover Farm & Environmental Center is dedicated to the practices of sustainable agriculture, environmental stewardship, community education, and the creation of access to healthy food systems. Hilltop is a 60-acre working farm and educational center operated by Westchester County Parks, Recreation, and Conservation that uses organic practices to grow produce, flowers, and seeds for a market-style CSA, on-site farm stand, and native plant nursery. The farm offers educational programming throughout the year and the property is open to the public, free of charge, year round.
Job Description
The Farm Stand Attendant reports to the Farm Stand Manager. Farm Stand staff should be customer service oriented and communicate clearly towards fellow employees and to all customers, visitors and volunteers. Successful candidates must be able to multi-task and be eager to engage and inform our Farm Stand customers about the farm and farm events.
This position public-facing, physically demanding, and interfaces directly with our customers, staff, and volunteers regularly. The Farm Stand Assistant will be required to work alongside the Field Crew. Successful candidates are passionate about sustainability, local food, and community. The Farm Stand is open from Thursday - Sunday, May 8, 2025 - Thanksgiving. The position will be for Sundays while the Farm Stand is open and Thursdays – Sunday in July and August.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Become proficient at Point of Sale operations
- Maintain accuracy of cash drawer, pricing, signage, and inventory of goods
- Provide information about the farms products, growing practices offerings, and seasonal offerings
- Assist with setup and breakdown of the Farm Stand and help oversee market day activities
- Assist with enforcing Farm Stand rules and best practices to ensure safety and equality for vendors, guests, volunteers and Farm staff.
- Become familiar with emergency and accident procedures and have the ability to respond appropriately
- Maintaining and stocking products and supplies
- Deep cleaning and sanitizing of retail space, coolers, sinks, and equipment
- Participate in the wash/pack and harvest activities
- Assist other departments as required.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Greet and assist customers in a friendly and knowledge manner
- Retail experience preferred
- Comfortably lift 40lbs and perform repetitive tasks
- Experience working with Point of Sale systems preferred
- Stock and arrange produce in a pleasing display
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the farm stand
- Establish and maintain a positive and effective working relationship with vendors, the public, volunteers, and co-workers
- Comfortable working independently or as part of a team
- Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with diverse clientele & Farm Stand Manager
- Work in all weather conditions.
- Comfortably able to lift 40lbs and perform repetitive tasks
- Background Check required
Compensation
- This is an hourly position.
- Salary range: $16.60 - $20 per hour. Salary is commensurate with experience.
