Farm Stand Attendant : Recreation Attendant
Hilltop Hanover Farm & Environmental Center is hiring a part-time Farm Stand Attendant. We are seeking candidates who can work directly with the Farm Stand Manager to ensure that our patrons have the best possible experience.
The Farm Stand Attendant reports to the Farm Stand Manager. All Farm Stand staff should be patient and kind towards fellow employees and to all customers, visitors and volunteers. Successful candidates must be able to wear many hats, embrace diversity in their work, and be eager to engage our Farm Stand customers about the farm.
This position is physically demanding and interfaces directly with our customers, staff, and volunteers regularly. The Farm Stand Assistant may also be occasionally required to work alongside the Field Crew in order to deepen their understanding of our growing practices. Successful candidates are passionate about sustainability, local food, and community.
This position runs from Thursday, May 8, 2025 - Thanksgiving.
Who We Are
Hilltop Hanover Farm & Environmental Center is dedicated to the practices of sustainable agriculture, environmental stewardship, community education, and the creation of access to healthy food systems. Hilltop is a 60-acre working farm and educational center operated by Westchester County Parks, Recreation, and Conservation that uses organic practices to grow produce, flowers, and seeds for a market-style CSA, on-site farm stand, and native plant nursery. The farm offers educational programming throughout the year and the property is open to the public, free of charge, year round.
Primary Responsibilities
- Become proficient at Point of Sale operations
- Maintain accuracy of cash drawer, pricing, signage, and inventory of goods
- Understand our mission and growing practices and be able to talk about them with visitors
- Assist with setup and breakdown of the Farm Stand and help oversee market day activities
- Assist with enforcing Farm Stand rules and best practices to ensure safety and equality for vendors, guests, volunteers and Farm staff.
- Become familiar with emergency and accident procedures and have the ability to respond appropriately
- Maintaining and stocking products and supplies
- Deep cleaning and sanitizing of retail space, coolers, sinks, and equipment
- Readiness to participate in the wash/pack and harvest activities
- Maintain a positive attitude and team mentality!
Skills and Qualifications
- 1-2 years of retail experience preferred
- Experience working with Point of Sale systems
- Ability to follow systems to ensure accurate inventory/cash drawer counts
- Excited to work as part of the Field Crew/Farm Team on harvest days
- Clear communication skills, open to receiving feedback
- Establish and maintain a positive and effective working relationship with vendors, the public, volunteers, and co-workers
- Work independently with no direct supervision at times and prioritize work
- Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with diverse clientele & Farm Stand Manager
- Work in various weather conditions such as heat, humidity, wind, rain, etc.
- Detail-oriented, flexible, organized, strong communication skills
- Comfortably able to lift 40lbs and perform repetitive tasks
- Background Check required
Hours and Compensation
Pay range is $18-$20/hr. dependent on experience
- Sundays throughout the season
- Thur - Sun in July and August
- Access to free farm produce during the growing season
