Hilltop Hanover Farm & Environmental Center is a 60 acre working farm and educational center that uses organic practices to grow produce and flowers for a market-style CSA, on-site farm stand, U-Pick produce field, and native plant nursery. The farm welcomes school groups throughout the year and the farm property is open to the public free of charge.

Hilltop Hanover Farm staff are a group of people who each bring unique and varying skills and interest and who all care deeply about the mission of the farm to support our community through shared work, food, and environmental stewardship. Our full time year round staff provide expertise in their respective fields and also work together daily to collaborate on shared projects. During the growing season, our staff team nearly doubles with the addition of seasonal crew members. Interns and volunteers help by filling in where needed. We value welcoming new friends, guests, and workers into our community and strive to make our farm a place where people from all backgrounds and identities can all learn, ask questions, and enjoy ice cream together. Our staff team is a reflection of the community we have built and are essential in doing the good work of farming! Job Description
Many of our customers have been shopping with us for years and we see our Farm Stand as a way to serve our community. The Farm Stand Attendant will work directly with the Farm Stand Manager to ensure that our patrons have the best possible experience shopping! The Farm Stand Attendant reports to the Farm Stand Manager, who is responsible for the entire operation of the retail Farm Stand. All Farm Stand staff should be patient, bright, and kind with fellow employees and all customers and visitors. Successful candidates must be able to wear many hats, love having a lot of diversity in their work, and be eager to engage our Farm Stand customers about the farm. This position is physically demanding and interfaces directly with our customers regularly.
The Farm Stand Assistant may also be occasionally required to work alongside the Field Crew in order to deepen their understanding of our growing practices.
Primary Responsibilities
Become proficient at POS operations
Maintain accuracy of cash drawer, pricing and signage, and inventory of goods
Help with our spring Plant Sale
Staff the Farm Stand 2-3 days per week including up to two weekend days
Understand our mission and growing practices and be able to talk about them with visitors
Assists with setup and takedown of market site and help oversee market day activities
Assists with enforcing market rules to ensure safety and equality for vendors and guests
Is familiar with emergency and accident procedures and ability to respond appropriately
Assists with weekly reports, and maintaining and stocking products and supplies
Performs other duties and assumes responsibilities as apparent or assigned by the market manager
Weekly (and regularly as needed) deep cleaning and sanitizing of retail space, coolers, and sinks
Weekly participation in either the wash/pack and harvest activities
Maintain a positive attitude and team mentality!
Skills and Qualifications
1-2 years of retail experience
Experience working with different POS systems, including Square
Ability to follow systems to ensure accurate inventory/cash drawer counts
Excited to work as part of the Field Crew/Farm Team on harvest days
Clear communication skills, open to receiving feedback
Comfortably able to lift 40lbs
Previous work on or with a farm is a plus, but not necessary
Interest in promotion of local foods and farmers markets
Make sound, rational decisions using judgment and problem solving skills
Establish and maintain a positive and effective working relationship with vendors, the public, volunteers, and staff
Work independently with no direct supervision at times and prioritize work
Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with diverse clientele & Farm Stand Manager
Work in various weather conditions such as heat, humidity, wind, rain, etc.
Spanish language skills a plus
Our Farm Stand is open from the end of April until the end of November. This is a part-time seasonal position, Thursday – Sunday, running from late March until the end of November.
