Hilltop Hanover Farm & Environmental Center seeks part-time Educators to lead tours and public programs and enhance visitor experience. We are seeking inspired agricultural and environmental educators to fill a role perfect for someone who cares deeply about sustainability, local food, community, and teaching outdoors.
Who We Are
Hilltop Hanover Farm & Environmental Center is dedicated to the practices of sustainable agriculture, environmental stewardship, community education, and the creation of access to healthy food systems. Hilltop is a 60-acre working farm and educational center operated by Westchester County Parks, Recreation, and Conservation that uses organic practices to grow produce, flowers, and seeds for a market-style CSA, on-site farm stand, and native plant nursery. The farm offers educational programming throughout the year and the property is open to the public, free of charge, year round.
Primary Responsibilities
- Deliver Hilltop’s variety of lessons, from basic farm information and environmental sciences, to detailed discussions of agricultural practices in an engaging and thorough manner and to a wide variety of age groups in all weather
- Inspire and connect patrons to their environment, food systems, and each other through meaningful experiences in the outdoors
- Assist in camp programs as needed
- Perform physical tasks as necessary, including instruction and demonstration of crop care
- Uphold the safety of visitors and the well-being of the animals and crops they meet
- Prepare for and clean up after programs
- Develop lesson plans in conjunction with the Education Manager
- Attend trainings as they are offered
Qualifications
- Knowledge of sustainable agricultural systems, environmental science, farm work, and/or an educational background are a plus
- Ability to manage groups of up to 25 efficiently during lessons and fieldwork
- Comfortably able to lift 40lbs.
- Flexibility with daily tasks and schedule
Requirements
- Minimum 18 years of age
- High School Diploma or GED
- Background check required
Hours and Compensation
Starting salary is $16/hour. Benefits include a seasonal, weekly Farm Stand credit and a 30% discount on all items at the Farm Stand year-round. This is a part-time, as-needed position with work available weekdays and weekends. Educators can expect to be scheduled in conjunction with desire for work.
