Hilltop Hanover Farm & Environmental Center seeks part-time Educators to lead tours and public programs and enhance visitor experience. We are seeking inspired agricultural and environmental educators to fill a role perfect for someone who cares deeply about sustainability, local food, community, and teaching outdoors.

Who We Are

Hilltop Hanover Farm & Environmental Center is dedicated to the practices of sustainable agriculture, environmental stewardship, community education, and the creation of access to healthy food systems. Hilltop is a 60-acre working farm and educational center operated by Westchester County Parks, Recreation, and Conservation that uses harm-reductive practices to grow produce, flowers, and seeds for a market-style CSA, on-site farm stand, and native plant nursery. The farm offers educational programming throughout the year and the property is open to the public, free of charge, year-round.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Deliver a variety of lessons, from basic farm information and environmental sciences, to detailed discussions of agricultural practices to a wide variety of age groups in all weather conditions
  • Connect patrons to their environment, food systems, and each other through meaningful experiences via classroom based and experiential lessons and activities
  • Assist in camp programs as needed
  • Perform physical tasks as necessary, including instruction and demonstration of crop care
  • Facilitate safe visitor and guest interactions with livestock, crops, and farm equipment and infrastructure
  • Prepare for and clean up after programs
  • Develop lesson plans in conjunction with the Education Manager
  • Attend trainings as they are offered

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Knowledge of agricultural systems, environmental science, farm work, and/or an educational background are a plus
  • Ability to manage groups of up to 30 efficiently during lessons and fieldwork
  • Comfortably able to lift 50lbs.
  • Minimum 18 years of age with a High School Diploma or GED
  • Background check required

Compensation

  • This is an hourly position.
  • Salary range: $16.60 - $20 per hour; salary is commensurate with experience
  • Option to participate in the NY State Retirement System
